Water-based varnish, also known as water-based varnish, is made of water-soluble resin, emulsion resin, anti-wear agent and other additives in a certain proportion through high-temperature catalytic polymerization. The water in the water-based varnish plays the role of volatilization, penetration and quick drying, while the resin and emulsion play the role of film formation, adhesion and highlighting. After the water-based varnish is varnished, the surface has fast film formation, high smoothness, strong wear resistance, no yellowing, good elasticity of the glazing film, high gloss, and also has the characteristics of waterproof, moisture-proof and oil-proof, and the overall performance is greatly improved on solvent-based varnishes.


The basic principle of glazing of water-based varnish is the same as that of solvent-based varnish, but its curing mechanism is more complicated.


1. Curing mechanism of water-based varnish


After the water-based varnish covers the surface of the printed Packaging Box through the wetting process, after diffusion and penetration, the free wear-resistant particles and emulsion molecules in the varnish combine with the water-soluble resin to form a wet film. After drying to remove moisture, the film-forming resin and the emulsion are cured into a protective film, and the wear-resistant particles are also fixed in the film.


2. How to ensure the stability of the glazing quality of the water-based varnish


Of course, it is also necessary to carry out incoming inspection to ensure the stability of batch quality. The incoming inspection items are the same as solvent-based varnish, namely viscosity, solid content and PH value.


Generally, water-based varnish can be used directly on the machine, and the volatility of water is much weaker than that of Tianna water, so the quality of water-based varnish is relatively stable. However, if it is circulated for a long time, especially in the high temperature and dry season, the water in the water and oil will also evaporate a lot, so the amount of supplementary water can also be determined by measuring the viscosity.


In addition, the operator must adjust the speed, roller distance, and drying tunnel temperature in a timely manner according to different conditions, which is also an important part of ensuring the stable quality of water-based glazing.


3. Environmental protection and safety features


Water-based varnish uses water as a solvent, with little irritating odor, harmless to human body and no pollution to the environment. Moreover, the water-based varnish is non-flammable and very safe during storage, transportation and use. Due to its excellent environmental protection and safety characteristics, it is gradually replacing solvent-based varnish as the main force of glazing materials.
